Study Business English Language skills then apply your skills in a Co-op work placement. Through this program you will receive a unique combination of study and work experience.


Through your studies at SEC, you will gain the language skills and work experience necessary to succeed in the Canadian work place. At SEC, you will learn useful skills that will help you obtain the co-op placement, build up your confidence and professionalism, as well as improve your language fluency.


The co-op positions will include placements
    in the following sectors:



Customer service, tourism, hospitality, the food and beverage industry, as well as the administrative and business sectors. The positions may include: kitchen help, housekeeping, event coordinator assistance, cashiers, office help, as well as a variety of other positions.


You will benefit from this program if:

  • You have an intermediate English level.
  • You would like to study language skills related to a co-op placement.
  • You would like to work at a paid entry-level position among Canadians.

Program Duration

Students will spend the first 50% of the course in the classroom, studying the functional English that they will need for the workplace and the second 50% of the course in the workplace utilizing what they have learned. This integration of study and work provides students with the knowledge and skills that will be useful to them for a lifetime. 50% is the maximum of time spent in the co-op program.

Program Requirements:


  • You are 19 years or older, enthusiastic, eager to learn new things, and have a positive attitude.
  • Minimum age: high school graduate, 19 years old +.
  • Work experience is not mandatory.
  • Medical insurance is mandatory for the duration of the stay in Canada.
  • Intermediate English level is mandatory (SEC will arrange for a telephone interview and a written test).
  • Most recent resume and cover letter, stating most recent employment experience and education.

Class Schedule and Decription

Classes are held 5 days a week at both SEC branches with a total of 25 hours per week. Classes begin at 9am and continue until 3 with short breaks and a lunch break.

Classes include an integration of English skills including reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary and the use of proper English for a variety of workplaces.

The classes are directly related to the co-op work experience they are preparing for. Student’s main goal of this program is to improve their English skills both in class and in the work place.
